Haudenosaunee Story of Creation

Location: Window across from the Shoe Dept

By: Six Nations Iroquois Cultural center – Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership

Six Nations Iroquois Cultural center mission is to educate the general public about Haudenosaunee culture specifically, and Native American history in general.

The display describes the creation story of the Haudenosaunee. The story demonstrates how we are all connected, and the importance of practicing sustainability.

The Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center, located in the Northeastern Adirondack Mountains on Franklin County Route 60, is reachable from State Route 86 coming from Saranac Lake or Paul Smiths. Coming from Plattsburgh follow Route 3 heading west approximately 35 miles to Route 60. Look for the Onchiota sign.

Hours of operation: July-August, 10AM-5PM, Tues.-Sun. (closed Mon.), open by appointment to groups during June, and September

International Year of the Salmon

Location: Windows across from Dick’s Sporting Goods

By: Lake Champlain Basin Program

The International Year of the Salmon is an initiative to inform and stimulate outreach and research that aspires to establish the conditions necessary to ensure the resilience of salmon and people throughout the Northern Hemisphere. The extraordinary life histories of salmon in the Northern Hemisphere exposes them to many environmental and human caused factors influencing their health abundance. The goal of the display is to raise awareness of what humans can do to ensure salmon and their habitats are conserved and restored.
